Walt Disney World Reportedly Relaxing Social Distancing Rules on Certain Rides

Walt Disney World has reportedly stopped social distancing on certain rides throughout the theme park.

After the park reopened in July, guests were subject to strict rules to enforce social distancing which included spacing out riders on its many attractions. However, recent photos and reports have shown that the park may be easing up on its initial protocols.

This week, Walt Disney World News Today reported that visitors are being loaded into every seat at Animal Kingdom’s Avatar Flight of Passage ride. However, social distancing rules are still in place while passengers are waiting to board.

WDWNT also reported that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and the Slinky Dog Dash in Hollywood Studios are operating at full capacity. On Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, plexiglass dividers have been installed in the rides, allowing two parties to ride in the same cockpit at the same time.

Additionally, a photo posted to Twitter earlier this month showed visitors boarding every row of Expedition Everest in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

At Universal Orlando, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and The Incredible Hulk coasters have been operating at full capacity since September. Plexiglass barriers were installed to keep a separation between guests queuing.

When asked on Twitter why they were eliminating social distancing and the theme park responded, “We have been planning toward this for months as part of the next step of our reopening procedures, and we are applying everything we have learned so far. We’ve briefed local health officials about our plans, and they have let us know they are comfortable with us moving forward.”

Guests at both Universal Orlando and Disney World are still required to undergo a temperature check before entering and wear a face mask while in the park.

A rep for Disney World did not immediately respond to Travel + Leisure's request for comment.
