Four Seasons Nevis commissions exclusive rum for anniversary

Four Seasons Resort Nevis introduced its signature Crowned Monkey Rum as part of its anniversary celebrations.

The first bottle (Bottle 001) will be sold for $29,000 to represent the 29 years since the property opened.

Crowned Monkey Rum was produced by Foursquare rum distillery in Barbados and aged for 14 years in a single Jim Beam bourbon barrel. The rum spent its first eight years in the tropics before being transferred for five years to age in more temperate climates, and it returned to the region for its final year before its local hand filling, labeling and bottling in Nevis, according to a statement from the resort.

“We wanted to create something special that spoke to the history of the property and its significance here in Nevis,” said Pasquo King, the Four Seasons’ director of food and beverage, said in the statement.

Only one barrel of the rum was produced, yielding a total of 345 bottles.

The label pays homage to the lush foliage of Nevis and also highlights the green vervet monkeys that are the unofficial ambassadors of the island and serve as the namesake of the Rum Bar at the resort, Four Seasons said.

Aside from Bottle 001, guests can purchase bottles for $228 and specify a bottle number that is significant to them. It will also be sold the shot for $22.

“It was important to get the right rum, something that was a smooth, sipping rum” said Mark Theron, master rum blender.

It also will be available in a signature cocktail called the Peak.
