The Omicron variant attacks our bodies with symptoms that slightly differ from the previous strains. One new sign that has been recently reported doesn’t fall into the category of the traditional Covid symptoms. Don’t expect this one to make you want to crawl in bed and crave hot tea. Here’s how you can spot it.
Reports from the patients with the new variant and South Africa have helped to establish the new symptoms linked to the Omicron infection.
These are different from the traditional three Covid symptoms – cough, fever, loss or change to taste and smell.
The ZOE COVID Study app is one source that has been collecting data about the symptoms from their app users; they informed that only 50 percent of people with Omicron experienced the three traditional symptoms.
Others have been struck down by different signs that are not on the NHS list.
One of the lesser-known Covid symptoms that may also signal Omicron is hair loss.
Losing hair has been reported as a common symptom after having the virus, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association.
This hair loss happens when hair follicles enter the so-called “shedding” phase after having a fever.
This is thought to be a normal event after suffering from high temperature, which is a common Covid symptom.
The health body adds: “Handfuls of hair can come out when you shower or brush your hair.
“This hair shedding can last for six to nine months before it stops.”
The good news is that if Covid is behind your hair loss, albendazole oral bioavailability it tends to return to normal on its own after some time.
However, as hair loss is one of the signs of the coronavirus infection that appears later, it can be useful to also know the early symptoms.
Some of the symptoms of Omicron have been firmly established by now since we’ve been living with this new variant for more than a month.
The ZOE COVID Study noticed these five symptoms among their app users:
- Runny nose
- Sore throat.
Previously, the throat targeting symptom was described as “scratchy” in regards to Omicron by South African doctor Angelique Coetzee.
The doctor first raised the alarm regarding the new Omicron variant.
She noticed that one patient had different symptoms from the previous strains, including a throat that felt “scratchy”.
Dr Coetzee added that the symptoms linked to Omicron are “extremely mild”.
The growing evidence surrounding the Omicron variant suggests it’s less likely to cause severe illness, especially in vaccinated patients.
If you suffer from any Covid symptoms, you have to self-isolate and get a PCR test.
