Google Maps Street View photographs the roads of the world as well as the people in their vicinity. Sometimes these folk are caught in bizarre scenes. One snap from Virginia, USA proved particularly uncanny.

The photo has gone viral after being posted to content-sharing site Reddit.

It shows a man standing outside a shop window in Fredericksburg.

He is standing with one hand in his pocket as he looks off into the distance.

However, something bizarre seems to have happened to him.

There isn’t just one of him.

To his right is floats a head and shoulders just like his.

Both the man and the hovering bust are bald and wearing black sunglasses.

What has happened here?

The Reddit user who eyed the photo was quick to draw a parallel between the man’s T-shirt and the bizarre apparition next to him.

He is sporting a black top with an X-Men design emblazoned across it.

The X-Men are a team of fictional mutant superheroes which appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Could this man also be a mutant, hence the second ghostly twin?

The Reddit poster clearly thought so, captioning the shot: “What would his Mutant name be?”

Of course, as thrilling as it would be for X-Men to appear on the streets of the US, the reality is far less exciting.

It is most likely a technical glitch has taken place.

Sometimes with such photos, photography splicing causes a problem due to the way the images form.

When taking the photo, the 360-degree cameras shoot multiple pictures to create a seamless image.

However, moving objects often ruin the scene as they shift when the photos are taken.

It’s possible the man’s movement as the images were taken resulted in the strange photo.
