Martin Lewis issues warning to Britons hoping to fly in the coming months

Hopeful holidaymakers gearing up to catch flights in the coming months are being warned that the travel experience may not be like the one they are used to. As airlines gear up to resume flight itineraries, Martin Lewis and the Money Saving Expert team has issued a vital warning to customers.

Many airlines are now implementing a number of heightened health and safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of passengers and staff.

However, the rules vary depending on which carrier you are travelling with.

While some require passengers to bring their own masks, others will provide them for free.

MSE included a round-up of a number of popular airlines and their current health and safety regulations for passengers in its weekly update.

British Airways

British Airways has resumed some of its flight offering already, though has given no further update as to when more flights will return.

Passengers are required to wear a face mask when travelling and must bring their own.

Food and drink are no longer available for purchase on short-haul flights, though passengers will be offered light refreshments and some drinks when travelling.

Passengers with allergies or dietary requirements, however, will not be catered for.

Seats will not be left empty for social distancing purposes, but passengers are asked to limit movement in the cabin.

Unlike with some airlines, passengers do not have to request to use the bathroom, but queueing is discouraged and travellers are advised to keep an eye on the “in use” sign.

easyJet

easyJet resumed some of its domestic itinerary earlier this week, with plans to ramp up it’s wider European offering in July and August.

Passengers are requested to bring their own mask which must be worn when onboard, however spares will be stocked in the cabin in case of emergency.

Seats will not be left empty for the purposes of social distancing, but space will be left between parties when available.

Food will not be sold onboard and the boutique shop is closed on initial flights. easyJet has not yet said if this will change as itineraries increase.

Passengers do not have to request to use the bathroom.

Jet2

Jet2 is set to resume some of its flight schedule on July 1.

It has not announced any of its health and hygiene plans.

The MSE team say that contacted Jet2, but are yet to receive a response.

Ryanair

Ryanair will resume 40 percent of its flight offering on July 1, with plans to increase this offering in August.

Passengers must bring their own face mask to wear for the duration of the flight. The crew will also wear face masks.

If travellers want to use the bathroom, they must request to do so from a member of the crew.

Social distancing is encouraged where possible onboard, but seats will not be left empty for this reason.

Ryanair will also offer an in-flight service of pre-packaged snacks and drinks, but will not be accepting cash transactions.

TUI

TUI’s resumption date remains under review, but the airline is aiming to restart its offering on July 11.

Passengers will be required to bring their own face masks, and wear them whilst onboard.

Seats will not be left empty for social distancing, but parties will be assigned seats apart when possible.

There are currently no rules in place with regards to using the toilets.

Food and drink are available for purchase but must be pre-ordered and only cashless payments will be accepted.

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic is set to resume some of its long-haul offering from Heathrow on July 20.

Passengers must wear face masks onboard, but these will be supplied by the airline.

Social distancing will be enforced through the cabin where possible. Seats to remain empty will be marked with a pillow.

The airline will not be enforcing rules for using the toilets and will continue to offer its hot food service.

Wizz Air

Wizz Air restarted some routes from London’s Luton airport in May and bulked up its offering on June 4.

Passengers must bring their own face masks to be worn whilst travelling. Social distancing is not in place for seats, but cabin crew may reseat passengers apart once onboard if there is space to do so.

Travellers may also use the toilets without permission but are advised to avoid queuing.

Emirates

Emirates has already resumed some of its international offering.

Passengers will be asked to wear masks throughout the journey, but these will be provided upon boarding.

There are no new rules for using the toilets, and the airline will continue to offer a limited hot menu.

KLM

KLM has restarted some of its flight itineraries, with further updates expected in July.

Travellers should bring their own face masks to wear for the duration of the flight.

The airline has said it aims to enforce “maximum distance” between passengers where possible, but on full flights, social distancing will not be enforced.

Food will be available onboard, but crew will “minimise passenger contact” when serving meals.

The airline has not set out any specifications for using the toilets.
