Flight attendants spend many hours on planes watching what jet-setters get up to in the cabin. So it’s hardly surprising they have a fascinating (if not disgusting) insight into how clean the inside of the aircraft is. One cabin crew has revealed the nastiest parts on a plane.
Flight attendant Kat Kamalani has nearly 300,000 followers on TikTok and another 50,000 on Instagram, plus 33,500 YouTube subscribers – and shared the viral video with her fans.
In the intriguing clip, Kamalani explained what travellers must not touch.
The reasons behind her rules were very unpleasant indeed.
Firstly she focussed on the area around passengers’ seats.
“First things first do not touch the back seat pocket,” the cabin crew said on TikTok.
“They clean them out between flights but they don’t sanitise them.
“Think of all the dirty tissues, barf bags and garbage that has been in there.”
Travellers are advised to think about what might have gone on in the seat before them.
“If you’re going to use your tray table make sure you sanitise it,” instructed Kamalani.
“I have seen so many parents use this as a changing table for their child’s diaper and then they put it in the back seat pocket.”
Passengers should also take care with surfaces above them.
“Those air vents? They’ve seen thousands of hands,” the flight attendant warned.
“Wipe them down before you touch them.”
The sanitisation process does not stop there, though.
“Next up is our safety guide cards,” said Kamalani.
“We don’t sanitise them and a lot of people touch and read these to pass by time. Yeah, just wipe it.”
Perhaps less surprisingly, travellers should be cautious when heading to the loo.
“When entering the lavatory, use a tissue to lock the door,” suggested Kamalani.
Not all her pointers were about cleaning, though.
The cabin crew also had some handy hints for female passengers: “You can find pads hidden in a compartment in the lavatory,” shared Kamalani.
